The next day, 26th August 2014, started with a
visit to the MP of Asutifi North district.
He expressed his readiness to support the group in the
goals they were looking forward to achieve. He also have plans taking us to the
Parliament house so we would have see for ourselves, what happens in there. The crew continued on to the chief of Ntrotroso’s Palace.
On arrival, the crew had to wait outside for sometime as the
chief was addressing his people. When they finally had the chance to enter,
they had to first greet the chief, followed by the other 15 or so elders after
which they were shown their seats. The chief gave a welcome address and
demanded to know their mission. The coordinator of GILMNET club stood to formally introduce the group, thus making the chief know of
the reason for their visit. He stated that: ‘We are an NGO based in Kenyasi.
Our main interest is to help reduce in young adults (especially teenage girls)
the increasing rate of early sex thus, teenage pregnancy. However, during the
talk, it began to rain and the crew had the opportunity to see the treatment
the Ntrotroso people be gave their chief. It was actually interesting to see
how the elders quickly stood up and covered the chief with their clothes so he
could get up. The crew had to wait until it stopped raining before the chief
came out again to address them and this took over thirty minutes after which, hardworking as they are, helped in cleaning up.
Once seated,
the chief addressed his visitors once again, answering their questions with
much delight and requesting to know if there were any other questions for him.
He stated
that the name of the town, Ntrotroso, was named after a river by their
ancestors, which provided them with all their needs when they were looking for
a land to settle down. And so, that was
the only way they could show their gratitude unto the river.
After a few more inquiries on the mission of the club, the
chief was satisfied and promised his best in supporting the crew in their
beneficial project.
